Blizzard is expected to officially confirm the release date of Diablo III in the very near future, and all the evidence now points to an April 17 release for the highly anticipated third game in the series.
Although not confirmed officially, apparently several major retailers across Italy have been told by Activision to ensure they have shelf space ready for April 17. That was closely followed by Amazon?s Italy website listing the game with an April 17 release date, but then it got removed soon after. A phone call from Activision perhaps?
A few days ago Blizzard game director Jay Wilson confirmed to a fan on Twitter that the Diablo III launch announcement was imminent, scoring it a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 meaning ?imminent.? If retailers are being informed of the April 17 date, then we should surely have official confirmation of the release from Blizzard within the next couple of days. With the Game Developer Conference currently underway in San Francisco, it seems fitting that such an announcement be made before it ends on the 9th. In fact, announcing it on the 9th as GDC ends could work well.
Diablo III has been delayed a couple of times now and was originally meant to ship in 2011. Then the game got pushed back to early 2012, and it was later suggested the title may not appear until June. An earlier April release would certainly be welcomed by fans, obviously.
A word of warning to anyone rushing out to buy the game, though. According to Blizzard?s community manager it might not be awesome.
