UW Educational Outreach (UWEO), the continuing education branch of the University of Washington, has been building bridges between the UW and communities across the globe since 1912.? UWEO provides broad access to and expands the high-quality educational programs of UW by serving the needs of diverse, global communities of learners through innovative, self-sustaining programs.? Known for providing its excellent UW Professional & Continuing Education certificate programs and fee-based degree programs, UWEO also provides other gateways to the University including UW in the High School, UW International Educational Outreach, The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the UW,? UW Summer Quarter, multiple on-line learning offerings, conference services and more.

UW Educational Outreach has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director of International & English Language Programs (IELP).

International & English Language Programs (IELP) has 75 instructors, who are members of the American Federation of Teachers-UW English Language Faculty, and 25 staff, some of whom are members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). IELP offers a large variety of open-enrollment and customized group programs that serve over 4,000 international students and generates revenue of $12.5 million a year. The Associate Director of IELP provides support for the Senior Director of IELP in the areas of Human Resources, Marketing and Program Administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Administration

  • Participate as a member of the IELP management team.
  • Participate in overall program development and administration of IELP?s learning initiatives, taskforces and committees, as assigned by the IELP Senior Director.
  • Complete program management projects, which may include grant writing, grant management, program development, research projects and special initiatives, as assigned by the IELP Senior Director.
  • Manage financial aspects of grants in collaboration with the UW Office of Sponsored Programs and UW Grants and Contracts Accounting.?
  • Conduct classroom instructor observations and participate in the performance review process and merit ranking of extension lecturers.
  • Communicate and enforce UW and UWEO policies, the IELP Operations Manual and the instructors? union contract.? Participate in IELP policy development and union contract negotiations.
  • Create and distribute IELP-wide communications.??
  • Prepare general MOUs between universities.

Instructor Resource Management

  • Coordinate annual evaluation of instructors, including observations, performance appraisal reports and merit review.
  • Assign classes to instructors in collaboration with program managers.
  • Coordinate new instructor orientations and probationary period requirements.
  • Advertise and process professional development opportunities.
  • Respond to outside inquiries about teaching opportunities and serve on interview teams.
  • Maintain on-going departmental documents.?

Marketing

  • Coordinate print and online advertising in collaboration with Marketing.
  • Serve as point person for website updates and upgrades.?
  • Create new International Marketing Associate partnerships.
  • Prepare annual report of marketing efforts.
  • Promote programs overseas via universities, educational and ministerial agencies, and student fairs, as needed.?

  • Master?s in TESOL or a related field AND 4-5 years of management experience to include:
    -hiring, project management and curriculum design.
    -experience teaching English language in the US and abroad.
    -ability to travel internationally.
    -administrative experience in a university environment.
    -high attention to detail.
    -excellent written and verbal communication skills.?

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED:
    -Fluency in a second language.
