Ill. schools to be offered wind-energy materials

MACOMB, Ill. -- A partnership between Western Illinois University and Illinois State University will provide classroom materials on wind energy for interested middle and high schools next year.

Western's Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs and Department of Engineering Technology and Illinois State's Center for Renewable Energy and College of Education are part of the new Illinois Wind for Schools program.

Program coordinator Jolene Willis says the materials will be free to the schools. A grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is paying for them.

Willis says the materials will incorporate math and science lessons. She says the aim is to educate students about wind energy and how it works.
